Oegema Transport on the DAF XD Electric
“Experiences exceed expectations”
That Oegema Transport from Dedemsvaart is a long-time DAF customer is evident from the color of their fleet: the typical green is one of the six colors that DAF could deliver ex-factory in the 1950s. And as of 2025, that color is still the same. When you are so involved with DAF, it is only logical that DAF regularly asks you to participate in field tests. After all, customer feedback is incredibly important. That’s why there is an XD Electric in the fleet. However, that is not the only reason.
“How we deal with the environment is becoming increasingly important,” says Technical Director Gerlof Oegema. “Of course I see that it is getting wetter and hotter in the summer. And we contribute to this ourselves; we burn thousands of liters of diesel each week. You can’t continue like this.”
Challenges
However, the road to cleaner road transport does have quite a few challenges, Oegema observes: “Naturally, the range of the truck is very important. But everything starts with a charging infrastructure on your own premises. You have to invest in charging stations, solar panels, and your own battery pack. Of course, you can also charge on the road, but that is just too expensive.” How does the XD Electric perform in daily practice?
“The experiences exceed expectations, especially in terms of range. The DAF XD Electric goes two hundred kilometers further than the competing brand. And that is very important because that way you can get home without needing to recharge en route. You can do that here at the home base, which is much cheaper.”

The regular driver of the XD Electric is Leo Kooiker. How does he find the transition from diesel to electric?
“After a few days, I was completely sold. What a quiet ride, very relaxed overall.”
