TelliSys
20% more load capacity for container transport
20% more load capacity for container transport
That is what the TelliSys prototype for a tractor/trailer combination with an ultra-low fifth wheel coupling can deliver.
TelliSys is a collaboration between the IMA lab at the RWTH Aachen University, the European Intermodal Association, DAF, GEFCO, Goodyear, WECON and WESOB. The objective was to facilitate the transport of containers with an interior height of 3 metres and a load capacity of up to 100 m3. On an intermodal route* that would result in a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 35% per ton/kilometre.
DAF developed a prototype for a Super LowDeck tractor with a lowered chassis, an extremely compact rear axle suspension and 22.5" low profile tyres on the drive axle. This resulted in a fifth wheel coupling height of only 85 cm.
